Ben & Jerry’s is among the companies whose supply chains use migrant child labor, often in violation of child labor laws, despite the company’s self-proclaimed progressive values and promise to “honor and support” immigrants.

The report says migrant children work in the supply chain of major companies such as Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, Ford, General Motors and Ben & Jerry’s, among others.

Ben & Jerry’s, a self-described progressive company, told Fox News Digital that it is “against child labor” and is working to ensure fair compensation and safety for farm workers.
“Ben & Jerry’s is against child labor of any kind. The company has a proven track record of advocating for justice and equality for all, including Milk with Dignity, which has been working for more than five years in support of migrant workers. The Milk with Dignity Standards Board ensures that agricultural workers receive fair compensation for their work, work in healthy conditions and create additional guarantees for persons aged 16 and 17, ”a company representative said.

According to The New York Times, Ben & Jerry’s head of procurement, Cheryl Pinto, “said that if migrant children have to work full-time, they’d be better off having jobs in a well-supervised workplace.”
But national child labor laws prohibit children under 16 from working more than three hours or after 7:00 pm on school nights, except for work on farms.
Ben & Jerry’s is also known for taking a stand on controversial political initiatives, often citing ice cream flavors for or against controversial issues.

In 2018, the company released a new flavor, Pecan Resist, that was designed to signal the Trump administration’s resistance.

“We honor and support women, immigrants, people of color, and the millions of activists and allies who courageously resist [President Trump’s] an attack on our values, humanity and the environment,” the company said at the time.
Other politically charged flavors include EmpowerMINT, released in 2016 to draw attention to claims of voter suppression, and I Dough, I Dough, a temporary name change to taste like chocolate chip cookie dough in support of legalizing same-sex marriage.
