WASHINGTON — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, D-Kentucky, was hospitalized after tripping in a hotel, a spokesman said Wednesday.

“Leader McConnell tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner tonight. He has been admitted to a hospital where he is being treated," McConnell's spokesman David Popp said in a statement.

McConnell, 81, is serving his seventh term in the Senate since his first election in 1984. He was Senate Majority Leader until early 2021.

There was no further information on his condition on Wednesday evening.
