SEOUL – BTS’s Suga donated 100 million won ($75,700) to support relief efforts in Turkey and Syria following major earthquakes.
Global NGO Save the Children said on Thursday that Suga donated a 100 million won fund to the organization to help children affected by the disaster.
Producer-rapper BTS turned 30 on Thursday.
The organization added that Suga’s donation will be used to purchase blankets, mattresses, stationery and other essentials and deliver them to children in the earthquake-hit region.
“So many children and families were affected by the earthquakes. I express my condolences to the survivors and victims, ”the singer said in a statement. He continued, “I hope (my donation) will help suffering children and I hope it can be used to support children’s essentials.”
In recent years, Suga has been actively involved in charity events.
On his last birthday, he donated 100 million won to help rebuild North Gyeongsang Province, Daegu, and Korea’s eastern coastal regions that were hit by a massive wildfire. In 2021, he donated the same amount on his birthday to Keimyung University’s Dongsan Hospital in his hometown of Daegu to help children with cancer.
He also donated funds to Daegu in 2020 when the city was particularly hard hit by COVID-19, as well as to the Korea Childhood Cancer Association in 2019 on behalf of Army, a BTS fan club.
