Former Top Gear and The Grand Tour writer Richard Porter is the new star of the award-winning Fueling Around podcast hosted by Jason Plateau and Dave Whitty.
Porter, who has worked on two of the biggest automotive TV shows of all time, Top Gear and The Grand Tour, along with Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, talks about what it was like to work with the trio, the highlights of his career and how he started as a TV writer.
Porter has worked behind the scenes on both the popular BBC flagship show and The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime, penning the jokes and catchphrases that have made the show international hits even after his departure.
Richard Porter shares hilarious stories from the set of Top Gear
During the podcast, Porter reminisces about Plato and Vitti, tells funny anecdotes with Clarkson, Hammond and May, discusses what really happened to the infamous Argentine license plate that made Top Gear headlines for the wrong reasons, and reminisces about the time when they put him in front of the camera.
Porter also details how, while he was unemployed, he set up a car parody website, he was stumbled upon by Clarkson, who asked to speak to him. He also talked about how, during dinner, Clarkson revealed that they were “getting the band back together” after working together on the “old format” of Top Gear before the modern version came out in 2002.
Since leaving Amazon The Grand Tour, Porter has hosted his own car podcast, Sniff and Smith with Fifth Gear host Jonny Smith, has his own YouTube channel, and is a staff cameraman on ITV4’s The Car Years, which is proudly sponsored by Adrian Flax.
