Nepal signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Belt and Road Initiative in 2017. As part of the Belt and Road, a feasibility study for the Kerung-Kathmandu railway project and the construction of a hydroelectric transmission line is underway.
Chen Xiaochen, deputy director of the Institute of Regional Studies at East China Normal University, said the OBOR aims to promote global peace and stability rather than enhance geopolitical competition, and will create more opportunities for Nepal to reach its full potential.
“Countries should unite, not divide,” Chen said, “and BRI provides a platform for countries, including Nepal, to build mutual trust and understanding.”
